XC men picked second, women picked seventh in preseason polls

Dallas - The Tarleton men's cross-country team was picked to finish second while the women's team was picked to finish seventh in the 2009 Lone Star Conference Preseason Poll as announced on Thursday at the LSC Fall Sports Media Day in Dallas.

The Texans finished last season as the conference runner-up behind this season's favorite, Abilene Christian.  ACU received all 24 first place votes to win the LSC title in a vote of the league's coaches, sports information directors and various media representatives from throughout the region.  The Texans received 174 overall points in the poll.

The Texans were followed by Texas A&M-Commerce, East Central, Angelo State, Cameron, West Texas A&M, Eastern New Mexico and Texas A&M-Kingsville.

Midwestern State was picked to win the women's title after collecting 22 of 31 first-place votes.  West Texas A&M, Abilene Christian, East Central, Central Oklahoma and Angelo State rounded out the top six spots in front of the TexAnns.  Southwestern Oklahoma, Texas A&M-Commerce, Eastern New Mexico, Texas A&M-Kingsville and Southeastern Oklahoma rounded out the poll.  The Texans tallied 169 total points in the poll.

Both teams will open the 2009 season at the Missouri Southern State Stampede in Joplin, Mo., on Sept. 19.
