Purple/White Scrimmage runs well

STEPHENVILLE - Tarleton's annual Purple/White Scrimmage took place Thursday night, and the Texans' first and second team offense and defense did as expected and dominated the rest of the squad.

Fourth-year head coach Sam McElroy was pleased with the outing, including from the underclassmen.

"We did a lot of good things," McElroy said. "We had a couple of turnovers we can't have a week from now, or it will end up costing us big time, but I thought overall, we did a lot of good things. Our substitutions went well, and I thought the white team did a really good job and executed well. They played hard and gave us a good look. I think we saw some things we needed to see. We saw some things we have to get straight this next week because Southeastern has a tremendous football team, and I know they will come in here ready to go."

The offense scored on their first two outings, driving down the field to score two touchdowns with precision.

The Texan defense allowed just a couple of plays lengthening in double digit gains.

Tarleton will open the 2008 season at home against Southeastern Oklahoma at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 28 in Memorial Stadium in Stephenville.
