STEPHENVILLE ? The No. 19 Tarleton Texans will host the Fifth Annual Texan Tip-Off Classic this weekend, Nov. 21-22.
Tarleton will play Texas-Permian Basin at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21 and Texas A&M-International at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22. Angelo State will play TAMIU on Friday at 5:30 p.m. followed by UTP on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
Friday's game will be broadcast on Hard Country 89.7 FM, but Saturday's game will return to KSTV 93.1 FM.
The Texans used a 91-48 win over Southwestern Assemblies of God to open the season 2-0 for the seventh straight season. The win came after an 83-64 victory over St. Gregory's in the season opener.
This season,
Jeremiah Wilson leads the team with 17.5 points and 17.0 rebounds per contest while
Eric Williams is also averaging a double-double with 14.0 points and 12.5 rebounds. Also averaging in double digits in the young season is
Monquel Pegues (14.5) and
Tyrone Cole-Scott (12.0). Pegues is also averaging 9.0 rebounds for third on the team.
The Texans are shooting .443 from the field, .255 from the three-point arc and .595 from the charity stripe while holding opponents to .344 from the floor, .246 from the arc and .667 from the line. Tarleton is outrebounding opponents 54.5 to 38.5 and outscoring them 87.0 to 56.0.
Texas-Permian Basin enters the weekend 2-0 as well after defeating College of the Southwest (92-79) and Western New Mexico (93-88).
The Falcons are led by Rob Harris with 26 points and 14 rebounds per game while Quintan Lipkins averages 20.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. Justin Bailey is third in scoring with 15.5 points and second in rebounding with 5.5 boards per game.
UTPB is averaging .451 from the floor, .475 from the arc and .745 from the line while opponents are averaging .449 from the field, .346 from the arc and .610 from the stripe. The Falcons are outrebounding opponents 46.0 to 36.0 and outscoring them 92.5 to 83.5.
Texas A&M-International enters the weekend 2-1 after splitting the opening weekend with a win over Ouachita Baptist (74-63) and a loss to Texas A&M-Commerce (74-62). The Dustdevils then won at Texas A&M-Kingsville on Tuesday, 76-73.
Sean Tucker leads the team with 15.3 points per game while Derek Barnes (14.0) and Jerante Morgan (11.3) also average in double digits. Morgan and Tucker share the lead in rebounding with five rebounds per game apiece.
The Dustdevils are averaging .408 from the field, .377 from the arc and .735 from the line. Opponents of TAMIU have averaged .426 from the floor, .313 from the arc and .534 from the line. The Dustdevils have outscored opponents by just 0.7 of a point (70.7-70.0) and they are being outrebounded, 39.7 to 37.7.
