STEPHENVILLE - Junior JoAnne Jones scored a career-high 24 points to lead the Tarleton TexAnns to a 75-54 victory over Texas Woman's on Thursday at Wisdom Gym.
Senior D'Anna Dingler added a season-high 16 points to help the TexAnns extend their winning streak to five games. Freshman Tori Skarke turned in a 12-point night as the third TexAnn to score in double figures. It was the first loss of the season for the Pioneers who fall to 5-1 overall.
The TexAnns began the game with an 11-3 run through the first six minutes of play and followed it up with a 12-6 run to go up 23-9 with 8:56 remaining in the first half.
The Pioneers were able to mount a comeback late in the first half, out-scoring the TexAnns 8-2 in the final 2:32 minutes and Tarleton went into the locker room up by five points, 36-31.
The TexAnns led by eight points with 18:02 left to play in the second half, but TWU responded with a 10-3 run to get within two of the TexAnns, 43-41, with 14:01 remaining in regulation.
Freshman Tara Towns provided a spark for the TexAnns, scoring five of Tarleton's next 11 points, and the defense held the Pioneers to just two points to take a 54-43 lead with 10:38 left to play.
Tarleton then put the game well out of reach with an 11-0 run and out-scoring the Pioneers 21-7 in the final 8:38 minutes.
The TexAnns dominated the Pioneers in nearly every aspect of the game, shooting 50.9 percent from the field and out-scoring the opposition 48-18 inside the paint.
The TexAnns committed 19 turnovers in the contest, but limited the Pioneers to just 16 points off them.
TWU's Renee Renz turned in 20 points, but was held to a season-low seven rebounds as the TexAnns out-rebounded the Pioneers 41-28.
TWU dropped to 5-1 overall on the season.
The TexAnns will take a week off to focus on final exams and will return to action on Saturday, Dec. 13 on the road against Northeastern State. Tip-off in Tahlequah, Okla. Is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Jack Dobbins Field House.
