TOPEKA, Kan. – The Tarleton volleyball team split Saturday's matches at the Washburn Lady Blues Classic, falling 3-0 to No. 9 Washburn before downing Southwest Baptist 3-2.
The TexAnns go to 7-14 on the season after finishing the tournament 1-3.
Tarleton dropped the first match of the day in straight sets to the Lady Blues as the TexAnn offense just never came around.
Shay Gracy and
Kendall Hansen led the TexAnns in kills, but each player had just seven each in the match. Despite Hansen's .318 attacking percentage, the team managed just .101 hitting percentage in the match.
Jessie Hartman led the team with 27 assists and
Shea McBrearty led with 15 digs.
After falling to SBU in the first two matches over the past year, Tarleton came away with their first victory ever over the Bearcats on Saturday with the 3-2 win. Tarleton fell behind 2-0, but came back to win the final three sets to get the win.
Rachel Wolf led the charge for the TexAnns, connecting on 18 kills in the match. Erin Lynn followed with 12 kills, while Hartman assisted on 49 of Tarleton's 57 total kills. McBrearty led the way defensively with 23 digs and
Catherine Cutbirth added four total blocks (one block solo).
The TexAnns will return to action this Thursday, Oct. 8 against Midwestern State. The match will be played inside the friendly confines of Wisdom Gym South and Thursday match is being designated “White Out the Gym” night.
