SAN ANGELO – The Tarleton Texan baseball team dropped a pair of games to No. 30 Angelo State at Foster Field on Saturday. The Texans fell 13-6 in game one of Saturday's doubleheader before falling 4-3 in the series finale.

The Texans fell to 5-7 overall and 2-6 in the Lone Star Conference. The Rams meanwhile improved to 9-6 on the season and 4-4 in the LSC following the weekend series win.

Tarleton opened the first game with a 4-0 lead after the first inning and a half, but the Rams countered with a run in the second and six runs in the third. Tarleton added a run in the fourth inning, but the Rams tacked on five more in the bottom-half of the inning to increase the lead to 12-5. The Rams added another run in the fifth and finished the game with the eight-run win.

Craig Blair (3-1) picked up the win for the Rams, working 2.2 innings in relief of ASU starter Brett Kinsel. He allowed one run on just one hit and struck out two batters he faced.

Brandyn Greer (0-2) was saddled with the loss in game one, allowing eight runs (six earned) on seven hits in 2.0 innings of work.

Zane Hensley and Mark Jeffery led the Texan offense with two hits apiece. Andrew Wolfe hit a solo home run in the second inning for the Texans, his first of the season.

ASU scored a pair of runs in the third inning of game two to take the early two-run lead. The Rams then added a run in the sixth inning to increase its lead to three runs.

A bunt-single from Wolfe and a fielder's choice by Tim Rainey in the seventh inning brought home two runs for the Texans to make it a 3-2 game. Andrew Kapple then connected on his first home run of the season in the top of the ninth inning to tie the game 3-3.

Nathan Lewis came into the game in relief of starting pitcher Jake Sowell in the ASU half of the ninth. Lewis worked the bases loaded but still managed to get the first two outs of the inning. But, Clay Puckett singled to right field in his plate appearance which allowed Chris Adamson to come home and score the game-winning run.

Jeremy Tietze (1-1) picked up the win in relief of former Texan Scott Crook. Crook worked the first 8.1 innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on seven hits and striking out seven. Tietze worked the final .2 inning of no-hit baseball to get the win.

Sowell (ND, 1) got the no-decision for the Texans going 8.0 full, allowing three runs on five hits and striking out five. Lewis (1-1) picked up his first loss of the season allowing the final run on two hits.
