Texan Track & Field ranked 14th in the nation

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Tarleton men's track & field team debuted at No. 14 in the first weekly poll according to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division II National Team Rankings released on Tuesday.

 

The Texans tallied a total score of 91.43 points to get inside the top-15. St. Augustine's meanwhile totaled 178.85 points to top the rankings this first week. SAU was followed by Chico State (170.35), Alaska-Anchorage (159.03), Pittsburg State (145.59) and fellow Lone Star Conference competitor, Angelo State (139.98).

 

The Texans stand fifth in the south central region standings, with PSU and ASU taking the top two spots, respectively. Just ahead of Tarleton was Emporia State at No. 3 (7th overall) and Abilene Christian at No. 4 (9th overall). Texas A&M-Kingsville (25th, 46.29) is the only other LSC team to be ranked inside the top-25.

 

The men's team currently has six of the nation's top marks/times with Nolan Eubanks leading the way as he ranks first nationally in the discus throw with a toss of 54.75m. Hayden Eubanks, Nolan's brother, is ranked third nationally in the discus with his throw of 52.49m.

 

Casey Keeter is currently ranked sixth in the discus event with a throw of 51.16m. The junior All-American is currently ninth in the shot put with a throw of 16.67m.

 

Senior All-American Garrett Thomas has the third fastest time in the men's 110m hurdles with a time of 14.33. Fellow All-American Jared McNeil, a junior, currently has the eighth best time in the men's 1500m run with a finishing time of 3:52.60.

 

The Rambelles (318.68) lead the way in the first batch of rankings on the women's side. They are followed by California-San Diego (203.97), Abilene Christian (161.30), Seattle Pacific (155.80) and Ashland (140.29).

 

The TexAnns are not currently ranked as a team nationally, but senior All-American Kandis Brooks has the ninth best time in the women's 100m hurdles with a time of 14.10 for the women's side.

 

Both Texan and TexAnn teams return to action this Saturday, April 10, at the Angelo State/David Noble Relays in San Angelo.  Field events and running preliminaries are set to begin at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday at LeGrand Sports Complex.
