ABILENE – Tarleton third baseman/outfielder Chris Casazza was named to his second all-region baseball team of the season, earning second-team honors at third base on the 2010 Rawlings/American Baseball Coaches Association all-South Central Region team, which was announced Wednesday.
Casazza, a junior for the Texans, led Tarleton in most offensive categories this season which included a Lone Star Conference-leading 16 home runs in 2010. The Temecula, Calif., native batted .379 with 67 hits, 15 doubles, a triple, 59 runs batted in and 48 runs scored.
Casazza was named to the Daktronics all-South Central Region first team last week and is currently in the running for All-American honors.
Abilene Christian University junior outfielder Aaron Oliver and Nebraska-Omaha sophomore pitcher Joe Holtmeyer topped the Rawlings/American Baseball Coaches Association all-South Central Region baseball team, earning Player and Pitcher of the Year and honors.
Oliver, who led the Wildcats to the program's first 50-win season and a runner-up finish to Central Missouri in the regional tournament, hit .405 with 14 home runs and 65 RBI in his first season as a Wildcat. Oliver was voted the Lone Star Conference regular-season MVP, was voted the LSC Baseball Championship Tournament MVP and was named to the all-tournament team at the regional tournament.
Holtmeyer, meanwhile, led NCAA Division II baseball in strikeouts with 152 in 87 1/3 innings of work for the Mavericks. Holtmeyer, the Pitcher of the Year in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association, finished the season 9-2 with a 2.89 ERA as he led the Mavericks to their second straight appearance in the NCAA Division II South Central Region Tournament.
