INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Five track and field athletes will represent Tarleton at the 2010 NCAA Division II Track and Field Championships next week, the Men's and Women's Track and Field Committee announced on Wednesday. The Championships will be held May 27-29 at the Irwin Belk Complex on the campus of Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, N.C.
All-Americans Garrett Thomas, Casey Keeter and Kandis Brooks, along with Nolan Eubanks and Hayden Eubanks, have each earned seeds at the national meet that will kick-off with a banquet on Wednesday, May 26.
Brooks, a senior who earned All-American honors at last season's national meet, will make her third appearance at the national championship after earning the No. 11 seed in the women's 100m hurdles with a time of 13.96. The Houston native finished eighth in the same event last year.
Thomas, another athlete who earned All-American honors the past two years, will be making his third straight trip to the national meet. Thomas had the 9th fastest time in the nation in the men's 110m hurdles with a time of 14.33. The senior just earned All-Lone Star Conference honors after winning the 110m hurdles event at the LSC Championships in San Angelo last weekend. Thomas, a native of Gail, finished fifth in the event last year and placed eighth in 2008.
Keeter makes his return trip to the national meet after just missing out last season. The Olney native earned All-American honors as a freshman in 2008, finishing sixth overall in the shot put. The junior thrower will compete in both the shot put and the discus this year after earning the No. 15 seed in the discus (51.74m) and the No. 17 seed in the shot put (16.67m).
The Eubanks brothers, Nolan and Hayden, will each make their second straight appearance in the national championships this year. Nolan led the nation in the discus for most of the season and will head into the meet as the No. 4 seed with an automatic qualifying throw of 54.75m. Hayden meanwhile will be the No. 11 seed with a toss of 52.49m. Both throwers just missed earning a trip to the finals in last season's national meet. Nolan finished 10th overall, while Hayden finished 13th.
