STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton head baseball coach Bryan Conger has announced the signing of Ethan Stuckly to a National Letter-of-Intent to play for the Texans beginning the Spring of 2011.
“Ethan comes to us from a very good junior college program out of Weatherford College and will really help us to extend our line up next year,” Conger said. “One of the things that really jumps out at you about him, is his ability to play three infield positions as well as the outfield. Ethan will provide a very good left handed stick to the line-up and will be a very strong addition to next year's team.”
Stuckly transfers to Tarleton following a two-year stint at Weatherford where he was named second team all-conference following his sophomore season. The 6-0 infielder batted .400 on the season with 12 doubles and six home runs while driving in 35 runs at the plate. As a freshman at Weatherford, Stuckly finished the season ranked No. 13 in the conference with a .391 batting average.
The incoming Texan played his high school baseball at Pilot Point where, as a senior, hit .457 with three home runs and 20 doubles. He was tabbed a first team selection in district, area and state while playing for the Bearcats.
Stuckly is the fifth off-season addition Conger has made to the team since last fall. He joins Reagan Janda (INF, Frank Phillips JC), Colby Cottongame (2B/SS, Palmer HS), Brandon Lewis (OF, Arlington HS) and Travis Hayes (INF, Lamar CC) who have all signed to play with the Texans in 2011.
The Texans finished the 2010 season with the school's first winning season since 2003, going 26-25 overall and 21-19 in Lone Star Conference play. Tarleton advanced to the LSC Championship Tournament for the second straight year under Conger's direction.
The Texan baseball team will begin off-season workouts beginning in the fall of 2010.
