Schindler adds Ilarraza to volleyball roster

STEPHENVILLE - Tarleton head volleyball coach Mary Schindler has announced the signing of Irelis Ilarraza to play for the TexAnns beginning this coming fall.

Ilarraza, a native of Veroes, Venezuela, transfers to Tarleton after a two-year stint with Northwest College - a National Junior College Athletics Association (NJCAA) member out of Powell, Wyo.

In her first two seasons with the Trappers, Ilarraza tallied over 600 kills while averaging a career .297 attacking percentage. The incoming junior recorded 54 aces, 297 digs and 87 total blocks as well. During her sophomore campaign at NWC, Ilarraza helped lead the Trappers to a 17-6 record and a third-place finish in the Division II, Region IX standings.

A 6-0 outside hitter, Ilarraza was named first team WCCAC All-Conference in 2009 and has played for the Venezuelan national team as well.

"Irelis will be an immediate impact player for us," Schindler said. "She brings international experience to the team and will bring a variety of shots to our offense. She can score points and she knows the game very well. I am very excited that she chose Tarleton.

The TexAnns begin fall two-a-days on Aug. 16, and will open-up the regular season on Friday, Sept. 3, against Southern Arkansas in Commerce.
