Men's XC tabbed second, women picked eighth

SAN ANTONIO – The Tarleton Texan men's cross-country team was picked to finish 2nd overall in 2010, while the women's team was picked to finish 8th overall in the Lone Star Conference, according to the preseason polls that was released at LSC Media Day in San Antonio on Tuesday.

 

The league's preseason polls reflect the opinions of LSC head coaches and sports information directors, plus various media representatives from throughout the region.

 

Abilene Christian was the overwhelming favorite to win on the men's side, gathering 20 of 22 first-place votes. The Texans tallied one of the final two first-place votes with a total of 193 votes to take second-place in the poll. Eastern New Mexico (145), Cameron (136) and Incarnate Word (124) rounded out the top five as preseason favorites. Angelo State (114), who tallied the final first-place vote, was picked to finish seventh overall, with West Texas &M (98), East Central (74), Texas A&M-Commerce (72) and Texas A&M-Kingsville (37) filling out the poll behind them.

 

Midwestern State picked up 23 of 28 first-place votes on the women's side for a total of 359 points. Following the Mustangs were ASU (4, 310), ECU (261), Central Oklahoma (261) and WTAMU (249) to round out the top five places. Just ahead of the TexAnns in the poll were ACU (1, 239) and UIW (178). Following Tarleton was ENMU (160), SWOSU (111), TAMUK (97), TAMUC (70) and SOSU (50).

 

Both men's and women's teams will get the season underway in September.
