Texans left out of AFCA Preseason Poll

WACO – After finishing the 2009 season ranked No. 10 in the final American Football Coaches Association Division II poll, the Tarleton Texan football team is not ranked in the 2010 AFCA Preseason Poll.

The Texans, who finished 10-3 last season under then-head coach Sam McElroy, reached the second round of the NCAA Division II playoffs last season and finished 10th in the final poll after being ranked as high as No. 7 for two straight weeks.

However, first-year head coach Cary Fowler is not worried about the preseason poll.

“We will be more worried about where we are at the end of the season,” said Tarleton head coach Cary Fowler. “There is a strong winning tradition here at Tarleton, and our goal is to uphold that tradition. If we do just that, we will be in the polls at the end of the season when it really matters.”

Tarleton was not ranked in the USA Today Division II Preseason Poll either, but the Texans were ranked No. 15 in the Sporting News Division II Preseason Poll. Tarleton was also ranked No. 8 in the Lindy's Division II Preseason Poll.

Last season, the Texans were not ranked in the AFCA Preseason Poll, but Tarleton went on to finish in the Top 10.
