INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Tarleton Texan baseball team has been invited to the NCAA Division II South Central Region Championship Tournament for just the second time in the program's history.
The Texans (35-13) received the at-large bid for the tournament on Sunday as Tarleton enters the championship as the fifth seed in the region that is set for May 19-23 in San Antonio.
The Texans will play second-seeded Central Missouri (45-8) at a time to be determined. Host St. Mary's (45-8) is the top seed in the tournament while Emporia State (42-10) and Southeastern Oklahoma (34-17) are the third and fourth seeds, respectively. Incarnate Word (35-16) enters the tournament as the sixth seed.
Tarleton's only other regional appearance in baseball came in 1998.
The championship includes 48 teams from across the nation battling in eight regionals. All regionals are double-elimination tournaments with the regional champions advancing to the double-elimination championship finals May 28-June 4 at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C.
