CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – Tarleton's
Sharon Lau has been named the Division II Freshman of the Year by the National Golf Coaches Association while four TexAnns were named All-Americans.
Lau, who is Tarleton's first ever national Freshman of the Year by the NGCA, helped the TexAnns to the 2011 Lone Star Conference and West Region championships this spring. The TexAnns finished fourth at the national tournament.
Carla Cooper was named to the NGCA Division II All-America First Team while Lau was joined by
Jacqueline Lau on the NGCA Second Team.
Katy Ward was selected as a NGCA Honorable Mention All-American.
Cooper was also placed on the NGCA All-West Region team for her success this season.
The National Golf Coaches Association, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women's collegiate golf coaches. The NGCA was formed to encourage the playing of college golf for women in correlation with a general objective of education and in accordance with the highest tradition of intercollegiate competition. Today, the NGCA represents nearly 500 coaches throughout the U.S. and is dedicated to educating, promoting and recognizing both its members and the student-athletes they represent.
