- TexAnn Season Box Score
STEPHENVILLE - After rain shortened the season-opening softball tournament in San Antonio last weekend, the Tarleton TexAnns (2-1) are headed even farther south in hopes of picking up where they left off.
Tarleton began the season with a win over Texas A&M-International and added another victory in game three by thumping St. Edward's 8-2. In between, however, a tight 2-1 loss to Southeastern kept the TexAnns from starting perfect.
The TexAnns will begin a five-game stretch in three days as they travel to the Texas A&M-Kingsville Invitational tournament.
Tarleton is slated to face a trio of familiar faces, an up-and-coming Southern Arkansas team and a Southern Nazarene squad who has yet to play a game.
Beginning Friday at 9 a.m., the TexAnns will face the TAMUI Dustdevils for the second time in a week and will look to improve on their 3-1 victory in the season opener.
Samantha Swanda pitched a gem when these teams met last week, tossing seven innings of one-run, four-hit softball while earning her first win of the season.
The game against TAMUI also started the offensive onslaught of Katie Welborn, who went 2-3 in the opener with two RBIs which eventually turned into a 6-10, five RBI effort over the opening tournament.
TAMUI is coming off their second win of the young season after handing Kingsville its first loss of the year Tuesday.
Sarah Johnson earned the win over TAMUK while Rochelle Nash drove in a pair.
In Friday's second game which begins at 5 p.m., the TexAnns will play Southern Arkansas who have started the season 2-1 after winning a three-game series against Texas Woman's in Denton.
Hanna Gill is the ace for Muleriders, having started two games and going the distance in both games to earn victories.
Macie Tillery is 6-10 with three RBIs over her first three games while Taylor Wheeler is boasting a .444 average in nine at-bats.
In Saturday's 9 a.m. game, Tarleton will have a shot to avenge their only loss of the season as they face off with Southeastern Oklahoma.
Last weekend, SEOSU used a bloop single to drive in the go-ahead run to beat the TexAnns 2-1 in San Antonio.
Audra Rhudy earned the win by pitching seven innings allowing one run on six hits while Tarleton's Randi Fentress earned the tough-luck loss despite going six innings allowing two runs on five hits.
In Saturday's 9 p.m. nightcap, the TexAnns will play Southern Nazarene, who will be making their season debut when this tournament begins Friday.
The NAIA Crimson Storm finished last season 44-16 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
In the tournament finale, Tarleton will get a sneak peak at Lone Star Conference opponent, Kingsville. This game will not be counted towards conference records.
The Javelinas opened the season with three straight wins - all earned by Lindsey Brown - before falling on the road to TAMUI 5-2 Tuesday.
