STEPHENVILLE - One down, two to go.
After knocking off Eastern New Mexico in the opening round of the LSC Tournament Thursday night, the Tarleton TexAnns (21-8, 17-3) are now two wins away from claiming the Lone Star Conference Tournament Championship.
Standing between No. 1 seed Tarleton and its first-ever appearance in the LSC Tournament Championship game is a familiar foe who recently got the best of the TexAnns just a week ago - No. 5 seed Angelo State (13-14, 10-10).
The Rambelles - who defeated Tarleton 70-63 in Angelo Feb. 22 - won their first round game against No. 4 seed Cameron 61-57 in overtime while the TexAnns cruised to a 75-56 win over the Zias.
Tarleton and Angelo split the regular season match-ups with the TexAnns winning their game at home 77-63 and Angelo taking their previously mentioned home game last week.
This will be the first match-up between Tarleton and Angelo on a neutral court in the history of their 36-year playing history.
The TexAnns are led in scoring by Shelby Adamson with 13.7 points per game while her younger sister, Peyton, is close behind at 13.6.
Kiara Wright is third on the team with 13.2 points per game but leads the team - and the Lone Star Conference - with a 10.2 rebounds per game, making her one of two players to average a double-double during the regular season.
Angelo has a pair of double-figure scorers, led by its lone senior Paige Weishuhn at 12.7 per game. Freshman Haylee Oliver is next with 11.3 per contest.
Tip-off is set for 2:30 p.m. from the Event Center in Allen and a live radio broadcast can be heard on KSTV 93.1 FM or at TarletonSports.com. A live video feed can be seen at LoneStarConference.org.
