TexAnns head north for weekend set with Cameron

- Season Stats

STEPHENVILLE - Despite a one-day delay due to rain, the Tarleton TexAnns (23-9, 8-1) will head north of the border this weekend for a chance to improve on their 8-1 Lone Star Conference record with a three-game set against Cameron (12-16, 3-6).

Tarleton is coming off a 2-1 series win against then-No. 24 Abilene Christian while Cameron salvaged the final game of the three-game series loss to Texas Woman's, marking a 5-11 run over its last 16 games.

Cameron enters the series as the sixth-best hitting team in the conference with a .297 team batting average, led by four .300-plus hitting starters - Drew Wright (.395), Leslie Martini (.365), Misti Dooley (.351), and Leah Trousdale (.314).

Despite the solid lineup, the Aggies also have the second-high earned run average in the LSC at 5.23. Their defense is also second-to-last in the conference.

Tarleton will counter with the second-best pitching staff in the LSC, led by the two-time conference pitcher of the week Samantha Swanda, and the reigning Louisville Slugger Division II National Player of the Week, Katie Welborn.

Swanda leads the LSC in ERA (2.09) and strikeouts (108), while TexAnn sophomore Randi Fentress boasts a 2.79 ERA and 94 K's.

Welborn leads the Tarleton offense with a .429 batting average and is coming off a series against ACU in which she went 5-5 with three home runs and four intentional walks.

The doubleheader is set for Saturday, beginning at 12 p.m., with the finale coming Sunday at 1 p.m. - weather permitting.
