Texans fall short of weekend sweep of ACU Whitten Inn Classic

- Box Score

ABILENE - The Tarleton baseball team was looking to win all three games this weekend at the ACU Whitten Inn Classic in Abilene, but the host Wildcats defeated the Texans 6-1 on Sunday.

Tarleton faced their third ranked opponent of the season in No. 27 Abilene Christian, but could not play the role of spoiler this time.

The Texans started off the scoring in the top of the first when Blake Silguero ripped an RBI double to right center for a 1-0 lead.

Unfortunately, that would be all the scoring Tarleton would muster on Sunday as ACU went on to score six unanswered runs, including three in the bottom of the first.

The Texans struggled a bit defensively on Sunday, and committed three errors in the contest.

Joesph Aquino (0-2) gave up five earned runs on four hits in four innings of work and suffered the loss.

Kenneth Stockton and Britt Robertshaw were bright spots out of the bullpen, with both relievers blanking the Wildcats.  Stockton alone tossed three shutout innings for Tarleton.

Silguero provided the lone RBI for the Texans while Ethan Stuckly and Garrett Hardey collected a hit each.

Head coach Bryan Conger discussed the tough loss after the game.

"ACU played well tonight," said Conger.  "They made the plays when they had the opportunity. We had some chances, but couldn't get it done.  We have the ability to play better and be more consistent for an entire weekend.  That is the next step in the process."

Tarleton (7-6) will face their next opponent on March 16th when it heads to Portales to take on Eastern New Mexico for a four-game conference set.  It will be the first LSC games of the season for the Texans.
