INDIANAPOLIS, IND. - The Tarleton TexAnn basketball team has been selected to compete in the NCAA Division II National Tournament after locking up an automatic qualifying spot with their LSC Championship on Sunday. They will enter the South Central Region tournament as the No. 4 seed and will face No. 5 Emporia State.
Tarleton is coming off a huge win over Incarnate Word on Sunday in the finals of the LSC Tournament in Allen. They will now face a familiar foe in the South Central Region tournament in Emporia State, who has eliminated the TexAnns previously in postseason history.
The TexAnns will travel to Topeka, Kan. next weekend for the tournament as Washburn will host for the South Central region.
At 23-8, Tarleton will look to pick up only their second postseason victory in school history. A win over Southeastern Oklahoma in 2010-11 was the program's first.
Head coach Ronnie Hearne talked about the selection.
"We are very pleased," said Hearne. "We started out the year rough at 2-5 then went on to win the conference championship and the LSC tournament. We are on four game winning streak and I feel real good about our team. Emporia State is a very strong college basketball program and in the next couple of days, we will get our team aquainted with them."
The TexAnns celebrated the selection with fans at a special event in Wisdom Gym. The NCAA Selection Show was broadcasted for the men's and women's teams.
