DENTON – After dropping their fourth straight with a one-run loss in extra innings, the Tarleton TexAnns (29-14, 14-6) rebounded with a 10-1 thumping of Texas Woman's (30-13, 12-7) to split Tuesday's doubleheader.

Game 1: Texas Woman's 2, Tarleton 1 (9 Innings)

Arianna Rodriguez belted her 15th home run of the season in the first inning, but the Tarleton offense couldn't muster anything else as Texas Woman's handed Tarleton a 2-1 loss in nine innings.

Tarleton got the scoring started in the first with the Rodriguez home run over the left field wall, giving her 30 career bombs. Her next home run will tie Alicia Petersma as the all-time home run leader.

The Pioneers rebounded in the bottom of the first with an RBI single to single, but the inning was kept in check when TWU's Bailey Vrazel was gunned down at second base by Tarleton catcher Amber Sotelo. Vrazel entered this game 60-61 on stolen base attempts.

Over the next five innings, the teams were locked in a pitcher's duel.

Neither team left more than one runner on base until Texas Woman's had two on in the sixth, but Samantha Swanda got out of the jam to keep the game tied.

Tarleton had chances to score in the seventh when Bailee Mauldin doubled down the left field line and again in the ninth when Mauldin walked and Tammen singled. The TexAnns had runners on second and third in the ninth with one away but couldn't capitalize.

Texas Woman's scored in the ninth on a walk-off, two-out homer.

Swanda went 8.2 innings allowing two runs on seven hits and three walks with three strikeouts.

Rodriguez was 2-4 at the dish with the home run while Mauldin had two hits as well. Katie Welborn, Abigail Tammen and McKaylee Pittman had the other three of Tarleton's seven hits.

Game 2:  Tarleton 10, Texas Woman's 1

In the nightcap, Tarleton took advantage of three Texas Woman's errors to pile on the runs and get back in the win column with a 10-1 victory.

The scoring began in the third inning when Welborn ripped a two-RBI single up the middle to plate Randi Fentress and Alex Orf. After Swanda walked to reload the bases, Rodriguez came in to score on a passed ball to give Tarleton a 3-0 lead.

Another error in the fourth opened the floodgates for the TexAnns.

Kelsey Latta scored on an error and then an RBI single by Rodriguez and RBI doubles by Welborn and Swanda put the TexAnns on top 7-0 after four.

Texas Woman's put their only run on the board in the fifth with an RBI double, but the TexAnns poured on the runs in the seventh on two hits and an error.

Tammen drove in two on a triple while Sotelo plated Tarleton's last run with an RBI groundout.

Fentress earned the win by allowing one run on seven hits, two walks and three strikeouts.

Tarleton recorded seven hits with Welborn, Swanda and Tammen recording multi-hit games. Rodriguez the other hit.

Tarleton returns to action Friday for a doubleheader with Angelo State at 5 and 7 p.m. in the last home stand of the season.
