TROPHY CLUB - The TexAnn golf team began competition at the LSC Championships in Trophy Club and finished the first round atop the standings by three strokes.

Tarleton shot a 299 on the day, which is three strokes ahead of Midwestern State (302) and 16 strokes ahead of third place A&M-Commerce.  Cameron (316) and West Texas A&M (316) rounded out the top five.

Jacqueline Lau is coming off a night in which she was named LSC Women's Golfer of the Year.  She led the TexAnns with a 73, which was good enough for a tie for third.  Sharon Lau, the Academic Golfer of the Year, and Katy Ward both shot 75's, which put them in a tie for eighth.  Sarah Fulfer (76) came in 11th and Jessica Pickwick (80) tied for 17th.

MSU's Kendra Whittley led all individuals with a score of 71 in the first round.

Tarleton is vying for its fifth straight Lone Star Conference title after winning the past four.
