Tarleton wins 10-inning thriller over Texas Wesleyan

- Box Score

FORT WORTH – The Texan baseball team defeated Texas Wesleyan 11-9 Tuesday night in Fort Worth thanks to Ryan Small and Blake Silguero's RBI's in the top of the 10th inning.

The game started with Tarleton taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on Garrett Hardey and Landon Thompson's RBI singles.

The Rams quickly answered though and then some.  Texas Wesleyan managed five runs in the bottom of the first to take a commanding 5-2 lead.

The Texans stuck with the Rams though and scored three runs in the third to tie the game up at 5-5.  Silguero provided two of those runs with a deep shot to left that cleared the fence.  Chris Patton then followed with an RBI single to right center, plating Hardey.

Both teams managed four runs apiece over the eighth and ninth innings, with Tarleton scoring three in the top of the ninth before TWU tied the game at 9-9.  It would be extra-innings for the Texans in their final non-conference game of the season.

It would turn out to be a good thing for Tarleton though, as the RBI singles by Small and Silguero gave the Texans an 11-9 victory over the Rams.

Tarleton and Texas Wesleyan both totaled 13 hits in the game, but the Texans benefitted from four Ram errors.

Austin Coble (2-2) got the win for Tarleton, who used nine different pitchers in the game.  Pete Perez and Matt Buckmaster both tossed shutout innings in the contest.  Britt Robertshaw was lights-out in the 10th to pick up the save and hold TWU at bay.  It marked his sixth save of the season and four in his last four appearances.

Patrick Stanley (1-3) suffered the loss for the Rams after giving up the fateful runs in the 10th.

Hardey finished the game 3-for-5 with four RBI's, three runs scored and a home run.  Silguero added three RBI's while going 2-for-5.  Patton and Evan Robinson also had RBI's and two-hit games.

The Texans (22-19, 12-12) will finish up the 2012 regular season on the road this weekend at Cameron.
