LOUISVILLE, KY. - The Tarleton women's golf team will head to Louisville, Ky. to take part in the 2012 NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships at Persimmon Ridge Golf Course. The event will take place May 16-19.
The No. 5 TexAnns are coming off their sixth straight Super Region 4 title and will look to improve on their fourth place finish in 2011. Tarleton enters the tournament on three consecutive first place finishes after winning the Doc Housewright Invitational, the LSC Championships and the West Regional Championships.
Katy Ward leads the way for Tarleton as the lone senior and the first-place finisher at regionals.
Jacqueline Lau, the reigning LSC Player of the Year, and
Sharon Lau, the reigning LSC Academic Player of the Year, are looking to make big impacts in their third and second NCAA Championship appearances respectively. Sophomore
Sarah Fulfer has also competed at the national level, while newcomer
Jessica Pickwick completes the team for the TexAnns.
Tarleton joins Grand Canyon and Central Oklahoma as the schools from the West Region. Also competing in the 12-team event are the following: Indianapolis, Grand Valley State, California (Pa.), Florida Southern, Nova Southeastern, Barry, Augustana (S.D.), Colorado-Mesa and Western New Mexico.
Head coach
Jerry Doyle is in his 11th year at the helm of the TexAnns and will be looking to lead Tarleton to their best finish ever.
Competition begins Wednesday with the TexAnns teeing off at 9:40 a.m. The event will be four rounds with the final round taking place Saturday afternoon.
