Tarleton track and field trio named All-South Central Region

STEPHENVILLE - A trio of Tarleton track and field athletes have been named All-South Central Region by the US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Tuesday afternoon.

Jeff Smith was honored for his accomplishments in the 400m hurdles while Lindsey Hinton and Nikki McNorton were named all-region in the 5000m run and high jump, respectively.

"This is a well-deserved honor by all three athletes," said Tarleton head coach Pat Ponder. "The fact that we got three athletes on the list is great for them and for our program. It's great to see them get the recognition they deserve."

Smith and McNorton will be traveling to Pueblo, Colorado for the 2012 National Championships after hitting the NCAA automatic qualifying marks in their respective events.

Hinton won the 5K, along with the 1500m run, at the Lone Star Conference championships after setting the school records in both events over the course of the season. Smith also broke the record for the 400m hurdles in the LSC championships.
