Texans fall for first time in LSC Tournament after two lightning delays

- Box Score

SAN ANGELO – The Tarleton baseball team was outlasted by host Angelo State 16-0 after two lightning delays postponed the game until a 10 p.m. finish in San Angelo Monday night.

In what was supposed to be the first of three games Monday, Tarleton and Angelo State got underway at noon and made it until the fourth inning before lightning suspended the game for almost six hours.  By that point, the Texans trailed the Rams 6-0.

Once play began again six hours later, ASU took advantage and scored nine runs in the bottom of the fifth.  The Rams would go on to score another run in the sixth, and that would seal the fate of the Texans.

Tarleton surrendered their first loss of the postseason to ASU in a 16-0 final.  Besides two lightning delays and coming off just eight hours of rest, the Texans faced difficult odds from the start.  Tarleton had completed their second round victory of Incarnate Word around 1 a.m. Monday morning.

Kenneth Stockton (2-3) was saddled with the loss after giving up four runs early on.

James Conlee (6-1) got the win for ASu after tossing six shutout innings.

As a team, the Texans totaled five hits in the game, but due to delays and rough conditions, Tarleton was unable to get a rhythm offensively.

The Texans (28-20) will now face the winner of Abilene Christian and Incarnate Word at 3 p.m. Tuesday in San Angelo with the winner advancing to the finals against Angelo State.
