SAN ANGELO – In the double-elimination format, Tarleton defeated Angelo State 2-0 which means the two teams will meet for the deciding game on Wednesday with the winner getting an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament and the LSC Title.
The Texans will be vying for their first LSC Tournament title since 1991 on Wednesday when they take on the host Rams. In order to get there though, Tarleton had to overcome fatigue and a hectic schedule over the past few days.
With lightning and inclement weather delaying four of the five games Tarleton has played, the Texans were finally able to get a game in uninterrupted. It did take 11 innings before either team was able to make a stand offensively though.
Tuesday's nightcap was a pitchers' duel with Tarleton's Pete Perez hurling one of his best games of the season. The junior righty gave up just three hits while striking out seven in nine shutout innings. Britt Robertshaw relieved Perez and got the win after tossing two shutout innings out of the bullpen.
The game remained scoreless going into the top of the 11th when Tarleton finally struck. Ryan Small recorded an RBI single to left, plating Ty Crump with the first run of the game. The Texans added to their lead when Garrett Hardey stroked an RBI single to left, scoring Small.
The two runs would make the difference in the game as Tarleton held on to upset No. 16 ASU, 2-0.
