STEPHENVILLE - Samantha Swanda and Katie Welborn are still racking up the accolades from the their senior season at Tarleton - adding Daktronics second-team all-region to the list.
"Both players are very deserving of all-region honors," said head coach Julie Mata. "I believe they are two of the best players in the nation as well. As seniors, it is great to see them get recognized for their accomplishments. They, along with Arianna Rodriguez, have certainly painted their names all over the Tarleton Softball record books with their play this season.
Welborn and Swanda helped lead the TexAnns to their 11th Lone Star Conference tournament appearance this season after racking up 31 wins in the regular season.
The senior tandem was named first-team all-conference while Welborn earned academic all-conference honors and Swanda was named the one of three LSC Gold Glove pitchers.
This marks the second season Swanda has earned all-region honors after being honored on the second team last season by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
Welborn led the team with a .386 batting average while also factoring in 15 home runs and 44 RBIs in her senior year.
Swanda was a force at the plate and in the pitcher's circle, leading the LSC in strikeouts (182) and innings pitched (200) in the regular season. She also hit .372 with 17 homers and 51 RBIs en route to becoming Tarleton's all-time two-year career home run leader.
