STEPHENVILLE - Tarleton football had three players receive recognition on Beyond College Sports Networks 2012 Preseason All-American release. Junior
Dashaun Phillips was named to the second team, while junior
Marquis Wadley was named third team and sophomore
Clifton Rhodes was named honorable mention.
Phillips led Tarleton and the conference with seven interceptions and 15 passes defended.
In just his second season at Tarleton, Phillips earned first team all-conference and All-Super Region 4 team honors.
The Duncanville native was also named the LSC Defensive Back of the Year for his efforts. He also earned second team All-American honors from Beyond College Sports Network.
Wadley finished in the top 10 in the nation in total tackles, solo tackles and tackles per game.
He also led the LSC in tackles with 119 total.
The Mesquite native was named Beyond College Sports Network second team All-American, as well as second team all-conference and second team all-region.
Rhodes started off the season with a bang and had four 100-yard games in the first five contests.
He finished the season with 827 yards and three touchdowns on 52 catches, all team-highs.
Rhodes was named to the second team all-conference as part of the Top 10 all-time performance for Tarleton.
Phillips, Wadley and Rhodes anchored a Texan football team that finished the year with a winning record and a five-game winning streak. As underclassmen, all three players return for the 2012 campaign which expects to be a big season for the Texans.
Tarleton will begin the year with Midwestern State on Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. at Tarleton Memorial Stadium.
