TexAnns earn national recognition for academics

STEPHENVILLE - The women's track and field team was honored Thursday by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for their efforts in the classroom.

The TexAnns posted a cumulative GPA of 3.06, making them one of 83 women's teams in the country to earn All-Academic status.

"This is exciting news for these ladies and our program," said Tarleton head track and field coach Pat Ponder. "This is validation for all the hard work our ladies have put in academically. I couldn't be more proud of our girls, it's very well deserved and it's a sign that were doing things the right way at Tarleton."

Of the 33 student-athletes on the Tarleton women's track and field squad in 2012, 16 ladies posted GPA's over 3.0 for the academic year and 11 were named to the Lone Star Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll.
