After addressing the coaches and players, Tarleton head coach

Abilene Christian was named No. 2 preseason, followed by West Texas A&M, A&M-Kingsville and Tarleton. Behind the Texans were No. 6 Angelo State, No. 7 Incarnate Word, No. 8 Eastern New Mexico, and No. 9 Texas A&M-Commerce.
ACU quarterback Mitchell Gale was named LSC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year to go with his Division II Preseason Player of the Year accolade. On the defensive end, A&M-Kingsville linebacker Jeremy Aguilar was named the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.
