STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton released a third addition to the men's basketball team this week with the signing of Devin Mitchell.
Mitchell joins the Texans after spending the 2011-12 season at Murray State College. Originally from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Mitchell is a 6-2, 185-pound guard that played at Del City High School.
Last season as a sophomore, Mitchell averaged 10 points and 3.5 rebounds per game while leading his team to a winning record and a Region-2 semifinals appearance. Mitchell was first on the team shooting from the floor (51%) and second on the team behind the arc (44%). He also scored a season high 17 points against Carl Albert Junior College, a game in which Murray State was victorious.
Head coach Lonn Reisman discussed how Mitchell will fit into Tarleton's plans.
“Devin brings our team a very versatile guard,” said Reisman. “He is capable of playing all three guard positions and is very strong ball handler that has chance to showcase his skill-set in our offense. Devin is a lefty that has a nice stroke but is also long and athletic defender. He played in a tough Oklahoma J.C. league and had a very solid year at Murray State as a sophomore. I'm excited to see how much better Devin can become in our program. He has a high ceiling and I believe his best basketball is in front of him.”
Mitchell joins De'Andre Upchurch on Thursday and Jon Cathey-Macklin on Wednesday as additions to the program this week. Previously, Chuck Guy and Michael Hardge also signed to play for the Texans in 2012-13.
