Regal, Wadley named LSC Players of the Week

RICHARDSON - The Lone Star Conference announced their Players of the Week for the second week of the 2012 season and recognized two Texan players for their efforts.

Sophomore running back Jerome Regal earned LSC Offensive Player of the Week honors after his dominant showing against No.4 Midwestern State on Saturday.  Regal led the Texans to an upset of MSU in the season opener.  The sophomore workhorse carried the ball 33 times for a total of 152 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Regal averaged 4.6 yards per carry in the contest, and was the major offensive cog in the Texans' 20-17 win over the Mustangs.

On the defensive side of the ball, junior linebacker Marquis Wadley picked up right were he left off last year, earning LSC Defensive Player of the Week accolades.  Wadley showed why he led the conference in tackles last season as the junior linebacker racked up 12 total tackles. The Mesquite native recorded seven solo tackles, a half-tackle for loss, and a pass break-up. Wadley's biggest play of the game though was an interception with 48 seconds left that ended the Mustang's comeback hopes and sealed the Texans' victory.

With the victory, Tarleton is now receiving votes in the AFCA Coaches Poll which was release on Monday as well.  Midwestern State dropped 12 spots to No. 16 with the loss.

Next up, the Texans will face No. 20 Abilene Christian at Cowboys Stadium as part of the LSC Football Festival.  Kick-off is schedule for 4 p.m.
