TexAnns take five-game win streak to ASU, ACU

STEPHENVILLE - After sweeping Midwestern State and Cameron in the first two Lone Star Conference matches of the season, the Tarleton TexAnns (7-3, 2-0) hit the road for a pair of tough LSC games against No. 11 Angelo State and Abilene Christian.

Tarleton is currently riding a five-game winning streak, including four straight sweeps - making it the longest sweep streak since the TexAnns swept five straight matches from Sept. 12-18, 2008.

Also by defeating MSU and Cameron last weekend, the TexAnns are currently 2-0 in LSC action since the the 1998 season. This marks only the third time since Tarleton joined the NCAA in 1994 to start conference play 2-0.

Nikki McNorton leads the team and the conference in blocks this season with 54 total blocks and 1.54 blocks per set. The senior from Channelview also leads the team in hitting percentage (with a minimum 3.0 total attacks per set) and is fifth-best in the conference at .335 with her 96 kills and 2.74 kills per set.

As the only available setter over the past two weeks, Danielle Barker has put herself among the top setters in the Lone Star Conference.

The junior from Amarillo is fifth in the conference with 340 total assists and 9.44 assists per game while also leading the TexAnns to a team hitting percentage of .202 - which is also in the top five of the Lone Star Conference.

Tarleton is third-best in the conference in opponent hitting percentage (.112) and second in the conference in blocks (2.35 blocks per set).

On Tuesday, Tarleton travels to San Angelo for a 7 p.m. match-up with No. 11 Angelo State (8-2, 2-0). Angelo was picked second in the LSC Preseason rankings, just two spots ahead of the TexAnns.

The Rambelles boast two of the top three hitters in the LSC  in hitting percentage at .373 and .368, as well as the LSC assist leader with 11.40 assists per set.

Angelo leads the all-time series against the TexAnns 25-11 and Tarleton's last win against ASU came in 2006.

Tarleton with stay on the road for a 7 p.m. Friday match against the Wildcats of Abilene Christian. ACU was picked third in the LSC Preseason rankings, one spot ahead of Tarleton.

Abilene Christian has struggled thus far, dropping six of their first 10 matches including an 0-3 sweep at the hands of West Texas A&M in their LSC opener Friday night. The Wildcats did record a 3-1 win, however, over No. 25 Colorado Mines on Sept. 7.

The Wildcats lead the all-time series 41-8 over Tarleton with the TexAnns' last win against ACU coming in 2008.

Following this two-game road trip, the TexAnns return home against Incarnate Word Sept. 25 at 7 p.m.
