Tarleton Softball picked seventh in LSC Preseason Polls

Arianna Rodriguez and the TexAnns were picked to finish seventh in the Lone Star Conference's preseason rankings.

STEPHENVILLE - The Lone Star Conference released the Preseason Softball Polls Wednesday afternoon and have the Tarleton TexAnns picked seventh in the conference.

"I never put any merit into who or what someone else thinks we are," said Tarleton head coach Julie Mata. "What will tell the tale is who we believe us to be."

Tarleton is coming off a 31-20 season in 2012, in which they qualified for the LSC Championship Tournament for the 11th time in school history as the No. 3 seed. They are set to return 10 letterwinners from last years squad, including the school's all-time home run leader Arianna Rodriguez.

The TexAnns received 134 total votes for the seventh spot.

Angelo State was picked to repeat as conference champions with 19 first-place votes and 251 total votes. Texas Woman's was picked second in the LSC with 220 total votes and five first-place nods.

Finishing ahead of Tarleton in the rankings behind ASU and TWU were West Texas A&M (181), Abilene Christian (176), Incarnate Word (151) and Midwestern State (151). Behind Tarleton in the rankings are Cameron (66), Texas A&M-Kingsville (55) and Eastern New Mexico (45).

TWU's Bailey Vrazel was once again named LSC's Preseason Player of the Year while Incarnate Word's Briana Sanchez was given the honor of the LSC's Preseason Pitcher of the Year.

TexAnn softball is set to begin the season in the St. Mary's Tournament Feb. 1-3.
