Last Time Out
Led by 20-point efforts from the LSC's scorers, Tarleton survived a late rally by Incarnate Word to win the first rematch of last season's LSC Championship game 78-71 in San Antonio Saturday. Kiara Wright posted a career-high 25 points in the victory, to go along with her 12 rebounds, while Peyton Adamson chipped in 20 points as well. Brianna Bledsoe nearly reached her career high as well with 15 points in the win.
Last Year's Meetings
The TexAnns swept the two meetings against the Aggies last season, with the first win on Nov. 30 being the first win in what would eventually be a 15-game winning streak. In the Nov. 30 game, Tarleton overcame a pair of Aggies who recorded double-doubles on the night with a 21-point effort from senior captain Shelby Adamson. Cheyenne Berry also cracked double-figures in the first meeting with 10 off the bench.
Top performers against the Aggies
There is not a lot of experience on the current TexAnn roster against Cameron, with Brianna Bledsoe having seen the most game action against the Aggies (3 games). In two meetings last season, Cheyenne Berry leads the team in points per game against Cameron (9.5) with Peyton Adamson close behind (9.0). Shanae Lowrance recorded a 10-rebound effort in the first meeting last season and a 10-point performance in the second game. Kiara Wright had a 14-point, nine-rebound effort in the last meeting against Cameron after missing the first game. She posted a seven-rebound game against them as a freshman.
Player of the Week
For her 25-point, 12-rebound effort against Incarnate Word, Tarleton's Kiara Wright was named the LSC Offensive Player of the Week. This is the second PoW award for Wright this season.
20-point scorers
Peyton Adamson's 20-point effort Saturday gives her seven 20-point games in her career and four this season while Wright 25 points Saturday gives her six 20-point games for her career and three this season.
Nation's third-best shooting squad
This season, Tarleton is shooting 48 percent from the field - which is good for the top spot in the Lone Star Conference and third place in the nation. Over the last five games, Tarleton has shot better than 50 percent in every game - including a 61-percent performance against UIW Saturday on 26-43 shooting. In that five-game span, Tarleton is 138-251 from the floor which is 55 percent from field goal range.
Wright becoming one of Tarleton's best
After 11 games, Kiara Wright has 137 rebounds to give her 578 for her Tarleton career and is now 10 rebounds shy of passing Karen Hula (587) for 10th place on the all-time list. She is rapidly climbing up the indivdual rebounding lists. Her 391 career defensive rebounds have her currently in fourth place all-time while her 187 offensive boards are good for 10th place all-time, so far. (NOTE: Rebounds were not kept as a divided statistic at Tarleton until the 1987 season.) By passing Brittnie Haley for 11th place on the list, Wright is now the second-highest rebounder in Tarleton's NCAA history - trailing only JoAnne Jones (636), who is currently eighth place on the TexAnn list. Wright has 21 career double-doubles in regular season and postseason contests - eight this season.
Last Time Out for the Aggies
Cameron struggled offensively in its final LSC trip to Moody Coliseum in Abilene Saturday as the Aggies fell for the third time in the last four contests - 43-90 to the Wildcats. Chelsea Stamp was the only Aggie in double figures with 13 points while Brittany Harris added nine. Cameron, as a team, only managed to shoot 23 percent from the floor from the game after shooting just 3-18 from the floor in the second half.
Not afraid to shoot the 3
Cameron is second in the LSC in 3-point shots attempted this season with 273 attempts from downtown. They have drilled 76 of those attempts for 28 percent downtown shooting. They are second in the LSC in 3-pointers per game with 6.3. Chelsea Stamp (2.4) and Alexis Williams (1.8) are each in the LSC's top five in 3-pointers made per game.
Looking Ahead for Tarleton
The TexAnns will hit the road for a 4 p.m. match-up with rival, Midwestern State at the D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
