STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Tarleton pounded out eight runs on 12 hits Wednesday night get back into the win column for the 12
th time this spring in an 8-4 win over Lamar.
A little slice of Stephenville is exactly what the Texans needed as the offense got back to scoring runs right off the bat.
Austin Germain and
Kelci Hill led off the bottom of the first with a hit by pitch and a single before
Brady Rowland plated the first run of the game on an RBI grounder.
After
Grace Garcia worked out of a two-on jam in the second, Tarleton kept it rolling with a three spot in their half.
Sage Harlow led off the inning with a single and then scored on a rocket double to right center from
MacKenzie Peterson. Three batters later, Hill delivered her second hit in as many innings with an opposite-field, two-run double to extend the lead to 4-0.
The Cardinals struck for one in the third, but the Texans had an answer in the fourth.
Morgan Medford led off with an opposite-field double and then score on an RBI rip up the middle by Germain. Three batters later, Rowland cashed in two more RBI by beating a pull shift with a single through the right side to bring home Germain and Hill for a 7-1 Texan lead.
Tarleton tacked on another RBI single from Hill in the fifth while Lamar managed to scrap out three more runs over the final three innings, but it wasn't enough the keep the Texans from winning against their former, albeit brief, conference rival from Beaumont. Lamar spent last year as a member of the WAC before returning to the Southland this year.
Hill could not be stopped, going 4-for-4 on the game and tying Rowland with a team-high three RBI. Of Tarleton's 12 hits, Hill (4), Germain (2) and Harlow (2) combined for eight of them while Rowland,
Tristyn Trull, Peterson, and Medford accounted for the other four.
Garcia continued to deal from her home circle.
The senior right-hander tossed 4.1 innings and allowing three runs – two earned – while striking out four.
Kennedy Ferguson came on and tossed the final 2.2 innings of relief with two strikeouts.
Tarleton will hit the road this weekend with a two-stop tour of Oklahoma with the co-hosted tournament between Tulsa and Oklahoma State. The Texans will play two games in Tulsa on Friday before spending Saturday and Sunday for three in Stillwater.
